Happy Halloween!

Something about candy and costumes and glowing pumpkins makes Halloween one of my very favorite holidays (not that there are any holidays that I don't like), in spite of all of its spookiness. Last year, our ward had a really fun, fully costumed and candied Halloween party; this year, they opted for a variety show and a sit-down soup dinner instead, apparently in an effort to blend Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas celebrations into one. Boo. Boo for lack of costumes. Boo for no candy and punch and games. And boo for combo parties - fewer parties is never, ever the way to go. So, this year, our festivities for the evening are tragically limited to entertaining a small trickle of cute little trick-or-treaters (for me), studying economics (for Drew), and wishing he wasn't studying (for both of us). Since our evening is on the painfully dull side, there isn't much to show-and-tell. Instead, here are some overdue pictures of our second and last foray into pumpkin carving this year.

These gourds look lovely by candlelight, don't they? But Halloween always looks better in the dark, doesn't it? In the light of day, everything's all polyester and make up and molding, rotting vegetables. But by night, you get bona fide vampires and princesses of all sorts and truly haunted houses and fiery, glowing jack-o-lanterns.

Happy Halloween!
Wishing you lots of candy and candlelight and no cavities or sugar-induced tummy-aches this year.
