Red Ledges

After leaving Diamond Campground, we drove just a few miles up Diamond Fork Canyon to Red Ledges - a picnic/day area with some really impressive red rock formations. Red rock abounds in southern Utah, but it's not quite as common along the Wasatch Front, I suppose thanks to cooler temperatures and plenty of snowmelt creating not-quite-so-deserty conditions around here. There are rough trails winding all around and through the ledges in the park, and we spent some good time exploring them. 

The ancient, interesting, really cool nature of this place speaks for itself, so just have a look:

We saw plenty of living, wild things, too, making their way among the sand and silt and rock. 

Drew had to climb just one more ledge before leaving. He did it so very gracefully...

Just when we were about to leave, we noticed the sun shining through an arch at the side of the park. We almost missed some of the best red rock formations! But we didn't. Here they are:
