A Birthday Dinner for Nannie

Nannie grew another year wiser on Sunday, September 8th, so, on Saturday, September 7th, we had a little birthday shindig at her house. Jenn, Koda, Drew, and I headed south while my dad headed north from Georgia, and all of us converged on Dunn, NC to spend some time together and celebrate a most special lady. The menu was nothing too elaborate - just a crockpot pork loin, mashed potatoes, asparagus, and yeast rolls, with a cake from the local bakery - but it was made especially for her, by us (and the lady at Sherry's Bakery...), so it kept Nannie, who is accustomed to waiting on everyone else, out of her own kitchen for a while. I feel like we learn a little more about and from her every time we're together, and that makes our shared moments pretty priceless. Here are some of my favorite moments from her birthday:

We're so glad to be back in Nannie's neck of the woods, close enough for shared birthday dinners at a moment's notice. That kind of involvement in each other's daily lives just wasn't possible this time last year, but as our recent travel calendar indicates (with trips to Indian Beach, Powder Springs, Dunn, and Charlottesville in the space of one month), we're trying to make the most of those opportunities now.

Happy Birthday, Nannie! We love you!
