A Good, Good Life
Hints of fall are emerging here, with crispness in the air and Halloween candy in the stores. The weather has been simply perfect, ideal for our weekend festivities of grilling out, football, and soccer. With school consuming our weekdays, I think we subconsciously try to squeeze as much fun into Saturdays as possible, making this Saturday another one for the books.
Drew played racquetball for a few hours in the morning, while I did little chores, repairing our apartment from a week of neglect. Then, we had a great, relaxing lunch with Aaron and Jaimie. After a painful trip to Wal-mart--not my favorite place on earth--we went to a pre-BYU football game barbeque at Matt and Katherine's with about 10 couples from our ward at church. It was nice to meet some new people and enjoy some time in a backyard (I can't wait to have one of my very own). It was rivalry weekend--BYU was playing the University of Utah--so everyone else headed to campus or home to their couches to watch the game. For us however, after a postponement and three months of waiting, we finally got to make the trip to Sandy, UT to a Real Salt Lake soccer game and OneRepublic concert. Talk about poor re-scheduling. Even though it converged with the biggest sports event of the year for Utah, the stadium was sold out, the crowd was crazy, and the game was a fun one to watch. Plus, check out that sunset.
After the game, we went down on the field to watch the post-game OneRepublic concert. Salt Lake was the last stop on their 2-year tour of their last album, so they played a lot of our favorites and also introduced a new song from the album that they're currently writing. The band was really impressive live, which surprised us for some reason, and it was neat to be so close to their music-making.
After the concert, we headed back to Aaron and Jaimie's (with their giant TV and on-demand satellite) to watch the last quarter of the football game. It turns out that it was a good thing we were at the soccer game: Real Salt Lake won 1 to 0; BYU lost 54 to 10. Sad day for them, but it was a really good, fun-filled day for us.
