A Sunday Stroll at Durant Nature Park
Why are all of the lovely days Sundays? For a few weeks now, we've had a rainy, gloomy Saturday followed by a perfectly springy, sunny Sunday, which makes it feel almost criminal to sit inside an ill-conditioned, slightly stuffy church building for so much of the morning. But, since there is great value in fueling the sunshine in our souls in that space, we just have make the most of Sunday afternoons. After a quick post-church nap, the three of us headed to Durant Nature Park for a nice, if rather short, stroll in the more earthly sunshine.
This isn't the most fantastically beautiful or natural park on the planet, or even within 5 miles of our apartment, but it's a nice option when the dam is busy or we don't have long and can't travel far, so we've been to it quite a few times now. Naomi was actually here just before her birthday (the very first one; as in the day of her birth); Drew and I wandered around here on April 26, 2014 in attempt to get out some of my then-unexplained anxious energy. Little did we know at the time that Naomi would be joining us for breakfast the next morning. We have also trekked the greenway that borders the park with Peter. And we've brought Naomi here once before, too (in her carrier, not my uterus), but that was before I figured out how to be a mama, a wife, a grad student, and an occasional blogger, so you won't find those pictures here. Not yet anyway; maybe some day I'll catch up. Until then, enjoy some scenes from our most recent trip to Durant Nature Park:
We're all thrilled to see the emergence of spring - to feel the warm sunshine on our skin, to sit in the soft grass, and to see all of the plants and animals around here stretch out after a long winter. Naomi is doing her own fair share of stretching - her legs and her mind. She's a walker extraordinaire now, so she dawdles around any grassy spot we put her in, discovering a whole new world. There's so much for her to touch, to smell, and of course (no matter how hard I try to prevent it) to taste. So far, she can't get enough of it. And we can get enough of watching and helping her enjoy it.
